After
the last game the Dads secretary did his best to find a
more friendly opposition and he thought he had in
Thunderbolts. The Dads usually get favourable results
against Securicor and they regularly beat up the
Thunderbolts - so there's hope.
Unfortunately, the squad is again weakened with the lack
of a keeper and one or two key players but Dave Hedges
returns. Despite this Mal's managed to get a fair team
together (bar the keeper situation).
Dave Hedges was a bit late but luckily there were some
lads having a kick-about and fancied a game - one of them
was a keeper, hallelujah!
SPRINGHILL
DADS
Andrew
Paul Hanvey - Brian Medway - Tony Pascoe - Paul Hanvey
Mathew Mac. - John Frisby - Martin Kings. - Jason Furness
Dave Smith - Ryan
From the
kick-off Brian missed with an own-goal attempt in a
defensive mix-up. The Springhill Dads comedy road show
continues; from the corner Paul was put under a bit of
pressure and fluffed a clearance but Brian was there to
clean up.
The Dads started to put it together and in a
breath-taking move Martin played the ball out to John
Frisby who cut inside to feed Dave Smith. Dave slipped
the ball through for Tony to run on but his shot shaved
the post and was cleared.
Ryan was put through one-on-one when Dave Smith's run was
blocked.
The Dads were playing well, now and it was no surprise
when Martin's pinpoint lob went in from a throw-in by
Jason. This is looking better!
The Thunderbolts weren't really putting it together as a
team but they were a bit younger and when a ball over the
top put their forward away - alarm bell should have been
ringing. Luckily Paul was awake and had to race back to
clear the ball behind for the corner. John Lynch was
unlucky to see his own-goal attempt fly over the bar.
When the next corner came over it wasn't cleared properly
and from some slack play on the edge of the area the Dads
breathed a sigh of relief to see a shot go wide.
There was an own goal or two in this game for sure and it
was TONY PASCOE who was the one to claim it - diverting a
shot wide of his stranded keeper . . . unlucky!
Jason broke up the next attack and brought the ball away.
Tony took it up and passed to John Frisby who fed Dave
Smith - he was desperate to see his precision curling
shot saved.
A Thunderbolt effort from some distance crashed against
the crossbar, phew. An effort shortly to be repeated by
Jason.
HALF TIME
DADS 1 - 1 THUNDERBOLTS
The Dads
felt confident at half time, they were controlling the
game and playing some good football but worryingly
weren't making that many chances.
One Thunderbolts shot across goal was sort of fluked out
of Andrew's arms, in goal, and up in the air off the
upright. Andrew caught it as it came back down, what an
entertainer!
Jason won the ball back from a Thunderbolts throw-in and
floated the ball over to Dave Smith who connected but his
shot was wide.
When the Thunderbolt winger fell on his backside under
pressure from Paul Hanvey they claimed the free kick and
no one argued? It was quickly taken and somehow, before
anyone knew it the ball was nestling in the back of the
net.
This really encouraged the Thunderbolts and their next
possession saw the left winger make a terrific break, he
crossed and the ball flew right across the goal mouth,
phew, but the other winger put it back into the danger
area for the centre forward hammer it into the back of
the goal.
The Dads were now looking their age, a bit red in the
face and puffing a bit.
Andrew was doing his best managing to foil a couple of
one-on-one situations when the forwards were put through
with the Dads stranded up field chasing the game. But his
goal kicks and throw-out weren't up to much and were
always putting the Dads under more pressure.
The Dads were reduced to chasing ghosts towards the end
as they used up their stamina but their opponents were
still full of running. It was no surprise when their
forward was put through, but this time he got the better
of Tony and rounded Andrew before tapping into an empty
net.
